Creative toys that make memories…
Whirligig specialises in ‘things to make and do’ – creative presents that get children involved in what they are doing, feeling great about what they have made and wanting more.
It could be a picture to paint, a model to build, a construction set to create a new design or a sewing kit that creates your own soft toy…all our toys are about children getting stuck in and trying out something new.
Our toys come from many small and independent suppliers that you won’t always find in some of the larger chains. We love to discover new and interesting toys and share these via our monthly newsletter.
Wherever possible, we work with UK and European designers so that even if the manufacturer is abroad, we have a close relationship with them and really understand what they are trying to achieve.
When you have 4 shops across Kent and Sussex, it’s not easy getting all your wonderful staff members together. But this January we managed just that with a trip to Leeds Castle! Despite the nippy weather, we had a fun day catching up with each other and checking out the beautiful castle and its wildlife.
Discovering new toys
One of the best things about working for Whirligig is seeking exciting new gifts to delight our customers! This involves visiting shows like the London Toy Fair at Kensington Olympia. In this video, managers Fran from Chichester, Matt from Tunbridge Wells and Gareth from Brighton joined Whirligig founder Peter Allinson at this fun-filled destination. Look out for a special guest appearance from one of Matt’s childhood heroes!
Our Discoveries Blog…
Of course we all want the children in our lives to have good quality, creative toys that they will love. Going out and finding toys is great fun, but whilst we spend most of our time doing this, other people have real jobs!
So, time to share. Think of Whirligig as your personal toy researcher. Through this blog, we are going to show our latest discoveries, tell you about toys that we love and hopefully introduce you to toys and games that your children will love too.
Here’s our latest blog and underneath it are previous ones we think you’ll like…
Whirligig Toys actively seek out smaller and more independent toy companies to work with. We love the creativity and care they put into their products and we spend a great deal of time choosing them!
Our stock is always changing, but there are some key partners we love to work with…
With their flair for colour and design, Djeco from Paris is a firm favourite at Whirligig Toys. Djeco create wonderful arts and craft kits with clear instructions, lots to do and materials that will last you long after you have finished the task at hand.
With products that start with the youngest children, right through to complex and detailed art projects, the range is always refreshing and there is always a good find. We have an extensive range of Djeco products in all our shops.
Timberkits are experts in wooden automata – fascinating construction kits that make fully working models that everyone is proud to have completed. Designed for 9 to 90 year olds, each kit has a hand crank that can move the model, or you can add on a battery pack to make it into a belt-driven model.
With wonderful, detailed instructions all done in photographs, these models are excellent. We have had such good feedback over the years and we are always looking forward to their latest design. Firm friends of ours, these toys are made to last!
Whirligig loves games that get children thinking and our favourite range comes from Smart Games. Each game gives children a range of challenges, carefully building in difficulty, so that they can master the level and use their skills to tackle the next one.
Starting with a logic game for a two year old, this range works right through to tax the adults – there are many games that we just can’t finish but that the children are forging ahead with! Carefully made, with beautiful pieces that really make you want to play, these are games that children are going to remember and love.
