What are little girls made of? This book has the answers, and you will be very pleased to hear them!
This gorgeous book is full of traditional nursery rhymes told from a feminist perspective. Subtly altered, each one gives a fantastic outcome for the female character, without trashing the boys at the same time. Many of the best known tales have been retold, but with a slight twist that changes the gender of the character, alters the balance or just shows that girls are completely able to achieve whatever they want as well. Here is a favourite of ours:
Doctor Foster, went to Gloucester, In a shower of rain, She fell into a puddle, right up to her middle, and then fixed the broken drain!
Throughout the book are the most sumptuous illustrations that really bring the tales to life. In a slim hard backed edition, this is a book that we think that every little girl, and boy, should own.
We love the twists – you will read it from cover to cover immediately!
- The rhymes show that girls can!
- They will know many of the tales, but not this version
- They can make up their own changes to alter other rhymes
